For every striking body pain we experience while doing our daily tasks, we would have to pause for a bit to deal with the pain. It may not be so easy to brush it off like a quick sneeze every time but whenever it happens, we could only wish for it to not get in the way of what we are doing.
Arthritis, lower back, and feet pains are the most common discomforts that some adults deal with everyday. By bringing comfort and awareness to our senior clients, pain management at home has become a significant part of our Home Health Care in Alexandria, Virginia.
One common practice for pain relief is the R. I. C. E. method:
The first immediate action for seniors who often experience chronic body pains is rest – resting their bodies prevents them from adding further pressure to any sore or aching body part.
Icing an aching body part can help minimize any swelling. Perform for 10 to 20 minutes to allow the soreness to subside and make sure to always wrap the ice pack with a towel to prevent any skin damage due to ice burns.
By using a compression stocking (for lower leg pains) or any elastic bandage, loosely wrapping a sore body part can prevent it from further swelling. But before applying any wrap or compression, be sure to check with your doctor if an overnight use of a compression wrap will aid to your discomfort.
The process of elevating the body part higher than your heart level reverses the blood flow and prevents swelling and drains any fluid from building up in one area.
The R.I.C.E method is not the only quick way to pain relief. For instances, when an ice pack is not available, medication like pain-relievers can help any individual in pain be at ease. For other pain management methods, our Health Care Service in Virginia also offers physical therapy to encourage mobility and proper pain management.
